Carbon credits can be accrued through focusing on more efficient livestock management. Cattle and sheep emit methane and if managed using different methods, these can be dramatically reduced.
This methodology requires a baseline assessment to be undertaken on your property herd or project to understand your current emissions.
From there, you will need to aim to reduce the total emission count through using some or all (but not limited to) the following methods:
Planning for earlier selling of livestock through the ‘quickening’ of herd maturity
Reduced average herd age
Reduced proportion of unproductive animals in the herd
Adding feed additives into livestock diet (such as the asparagopsis supplement)
Please note that your project will need at least 7 years of previous herd records to be eligible under this methodology.
